For booking and inquiries, log on to www.cebupacificair.com!

I was about to sleep when I received this email from Cebu Pacific stating that there's a very cheap seat sale to Beijing, China, and other destinations for travel between 01 February to 30 April 2010.  And it's really dirt cheap, like Php 2,500+ round trip, although you may have to stay for 6D5N [one-way is Php 988.00; Go-lite is Php 888.00], but I've seen sale seats for their Thursday out-bound and Monday in-bound flights [3D2N].  I've already made a mock booking for the latter part of February (24 Feb to 28 Feb), and I am so tempted to buy a ticket and relive the wonder that is Beijing, although I don't know what will I do in 6 days, again.  I mean, it's costly to stay at a hotel for six days, alone.  But I'm close to buying tickets now...Must restrain myself.  [Edited to add: I almost clicked the confirmation button after I entered my passenger details.  Must endure.  Must remember that I want to go to Japan next year...]

Do check it out before those prized seats get snagged!

     Happy travel planning!

Just Dance! Cebu Pacific's Dancing Flight Attendants

Who says the in-flight safety demo is boring? [Raises hand].  I've flown quite extensively internationally  for vacations, and locally, especially in 2008 till the early part of this year, because of my job. I usually take the Cebu Pacific flights; they're cheaper if you buy tickets during their seat sales.  Well, the first time you ride a plane, you watch the demo with a hawk's eye, but as you fly more often, it gets boring, then, so so so boring, to the point that you don’t pay attention to it at all.

But then again, Cebu Pacific makes the safety demo interesting.  Their flight attendants are keeping with the beat to Lady Gaga's Just Dance and Katy Perry's California Gurls while demonstrating the safety features of the plane and emergency guidelines.  Yup.  They're demonstrating and dancing.  What a fun idea.  However, don't enjoy it too much lest you end up forgetting about what's really important: the safety demo.

From the Philippines to Taiwan

My friends and I booked plane tickets to Taiwan for travel this June.  However, they weren’t able to join me to Taiwan due to unforeseen circumstances.  And it was only confirmed less than two (2) weeks before our intended departure.  So, yay.

Seriously, instead of wallowing in depression, I was very enthusiastic to be travelling alone.  I know, I specifically scheduled our Taiwan trip to coincide my birthday, but still, travelling on my own, for the first time, seemed exciting.  And exciting it was!

AIRPORT TERMINAL 3: MANILA TO TAIPEI via CEBU PACIFIC

I was more than three (3) hours early for my late evening flight.  In fact, I was the first one to check-in.  There was no open counter for Taiwan yet, but the friendly assistants not only allowed me to check-in, they gave me seat 1C, an aisle seat closest the exit door.  I requested for a good seat, after charming the staff, but instead, they gave me the best one; my prize for checking-in early.  See, joking with assistants and ground staff really do make the difference.

For the benefit of the interested, I’ve uploaded some pictures of the departure area.  I’ve often used Terminal 3 where the boarding gates for Cebu Pacific are located.  In fact, I use Cebu Pacific quite extensively.  Tickets are cheap when they're on sale, and I always buy my tickets on sale.

Terminal 3, Ninoy Aquino International Airport

Cebu Pacific Airlines international flights check-in counter.

The seats at the boarding gates are cushioned, and one can catch a nap in here.  Quite comfortable, I should say.

This is what my boarding pass looked like; a printed tape receipt like what you get at the stores.  I was so scared that I might tear it, worse, lose it.  Guess, this is part of the budget mantra of Cebu Pacific.

Thoughts: Delayed Flight to Taiwan and Missing the Last Bus to Taipei

I was fortunate to snag tickets bound for Taiwan for the Holy Week.  Filipinos have a four-day break during this time of the year and well, it's a peak-season for travelling in and out of the country.  So, I knew that there would be quite a line at the check-in counters so I decided to buy my seats in advance.  I forgot to utilize the web check-in procedure of Cebu Pacific and that would have made my life loads easier since I already have pre-booked seats.  When I arrived at the NAIA Terminal 3, all counters were open, and fully-packed with people.  The web check-in counter, on the other hand, intermittently had one or two passengers lined-up.  So, there, you should all avail of the web check-in counter.  It's faster, and you don't have to be at the airport 3 hours before your flight.

However, what's the use of a web check-in if the flight is delayed?  I know, I know.  Flights are usually delayed during peak season like Christmas and Holy Week but I was not expecting the delay in our flight.  I mean, come on.  Cebu Pacific only has one flight for that day going to Taiwan, so why would the plane be late?  But the plane was late.  I think they used the plane to another destination god-knows-where before its flight to Taiwan.  Oh yeah, our flight was an hour late.

The waiting area for our flight was packed with people; I think it was a full flight.  And there were a lot of Chinese-Filipino families, around 70% of the all the passengers.  And when it was announced that our flight was delayed, I think I was the only one who got really flustered.  I would miss the bus!  I wanted to befriend people so I could split the cab fare from Taoyuan Airport to Taipei, but I didn't have the courage to do so.  People around me were calling their respective airport shuttle service, and I had no one to call because I didn't have a shuttle service.  Sadness.

When we arrived at the Taoyuan Airport, the last bus had already left.  I was so tempted to strike a conversation with anyone in hopes of having someone split the cab fare to Taipei.  But then again, I was shy and I didn't want to bother people.  So, group by group, the passengers on out flight went their own separate ways, riding in their shuttle vans and cars; some had their friends and families picking them up.  Until I was the only one left.

It was lonely; really. I knew there would be a 3 a.m. Kuo Kuang bus, but I haven't confirmed it.  Through the help of several airport staff, one of whom was a Filipino, I was told there would indeed be a 3 a.m. Kuo Kuang bus.  Thank God!  By the way, the terminal had a facelift; a lot of booths were added at the arrival hall.

The Filipino airport staff, a cleaning lady, placated my fears; I'd be able to reach Taipei before my 6:15 am train ride to Taichung. So, I waited at the airport bus counters, and 10 minutes before 3 a.m., the Kuo Kuang bus came...I saw it pass by so I rushed outside.  Good thing that I had Taiwanese dollars with me.  The bad thing?  I need exact change to pay for the NTD 125 fare.  The driver was really helpful and he helped me change my NTD 1000 bill.

I reached Taipei around 4 a.m.  During the bus ride to Taipei, I was contemplating on whether or not to continue with my Sun Moon Lake trip.  I mean, I was tired already and I needed to pick up my train ticket at 5:30 a.m.  I was so unsure.

Oh well, I was thinking that I'll cross the bridge when I get there.  And when I got there, in Taipei, I had to look for my hostel.  I had a map showing me directions from Taipei Main Station to Star Hostel but hey, I couldn't find a sign saying Civic Boulevard around.  I saw people going towards the main road, up ahead, so I did, too.  But when I got at the corner, it didn't seem like the one on the map because the street name's not Civic Boulevard.  I asked some of the passengers who alighted from the same bus as me, and they told me it's the other way, past the bridge.  Okay, so I went the way they told me but it looked just like a parking lot for motorcycles so I asked a kindly man unloading stuff from his car (he seemed to be a worker somewhere at the Main Station) and he helped me and gave clearer directions.  He told me to go straight and  then cross the road under the bridge (a flyover of some sorts) and then walk along the main road.  Thanks to him, I was able to find the hostel.

When I reached the hostel, it was around 4:30 a.m.  So, did I push through with my travel plans to Sun Moon Lake?  Hmm...

Seat Sale for Labor Day 2012: Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines

Tomorrow, May 1, is Labor Day, and, there's going to be seat sales for both Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines.  Yay!  Totoro-line wave!

UPDATES:
Cebu Pacific's promo has a 90% off on the base price of their domestic and regcional flights.  It means, the fuel surcharge remains the same.  So, a roundtrip ticket to Incheon will still yield an almost Php 7,000.00 price.  Promo period is from May 1 to May 2; travel period is from September 1 to December 15.
As for Air Philippines, their P1 fare refers to the base fare as well and it covers flights from Cebu and Clark, and Php 288 base fare for their Manila outbound flights.   Promo period is from May 1 to 3; Travel period is from May 16 to July 31.

     Cebu Pacific posted this teaser:

On the other hand, Air Philippines tweeted this:

So, it's possibly an 80% off from Cebu Pacific perhaps for flights until December or even beyond, and Php 1.00 base fare for Air Philippines' domestic flights.  Most likely, both seat sales shall commence at 12 midnight.

Good luck and happy travel planning!

Asian Travel Adventures - Back from Ho Chi Minh City: Midnight Flights and Bright Lights

One of the crazy schemes of Cebu Pacific to offset their low-cost mantra is flight scheduling in the dead of the night...Really, it'd make Howard Wolowitz's mother to holler, "At this unholy hour?!"  Well, whatever you save in booking your flight you spend for an extra night at the hotel, unless you choose to stay over at the airport waiting for the sun to rise.  Anyway, that was what happened in our Ho Chi Minh flight last Thursday with Cebu Pacific.  I mean, late flight and extra day at the hotel.  We departed from NAIA Terminal 3 at 23:00, and we arrived in Ho Chi Minh at 00:30 (GMT +7), with a one hour difference between Manila and Ho Chi Minh. By the time we exited the Arrival Hall of the Ta Son Nhat International Airport, I was already tired.  However, few of the good things about late night flights include the chance to use less of your treasured vacation leaves at work and to see the pretty dazzling lights of the city from the plane.  Every time the cabin lights are dimmed to give the passengers a better view of the city we're about to reach, I will almost always start to sing to myself Bright Lights by Matchbox Twenty -

♫  and Maybe, maybe, maybe
You'll find something
That's enough to keep you
But if the bright lights don't receive you
You should turn yourself around
And come on home  ♬

Whenever I see those bright lights below, I'll feel the anticipation rising in my veins.  What kind of discovery awaits me in my destination?  Will I be dazzled and dazed by the bright lights making me want to stay there a little bit longer?  Or will I be disappointed?  Whatever it may be, I'll always know that I only have to turn around where home is waiting.

In my recently concluded trip to Vietnam (I just arrived back home less than 12 hours ago), I got really, really confused.  If I close my eyes and open them suddenly, what I see in front of me is almost like my own county...When we boarded down the plane and walked through the gate, I was so dumbstruck.  The Ta So Nhat Airport is just like our very own NAIA Terminal 3.  I was sleepy, yes, but not enough to mistake one terminal from the other, but still, the Ho Chi Minh and Manila terminals are so alike!  And even when we got out, the streets look the same here and there.  I was so dumbfounded that I almost called Ho Chi Minh, home.  Because we were on a late flight and when we got into a cab, all I could think about was, "Am I going home now?"  Really, just replace all the signage in Viet to English, then, I'd think that I'm heading home after a late flight.  But I wasn't; we were really in Ho Chi Minh, and not in Manila. Wow!  Imagine that, I went to home from home!

Honestly, that is not the only thing the Philippines have in common with Vietnam.  The locals there also love to drink beer on the side streets, they also have street vendors selling refreshments, like soda and C2, a brand of iced tea drink from the Philippines, they have sari-sari stores (general merchandise store, the mom and pop type), and yes, they have their own version of Ermita where some foreigners (westerners) stay and party.  Vietnam is really close to home...it is almost home.

In the coming days, I'll post my experiences in Vietnam, but right now, I'll get back to sleep and recharge some more.

     Till then!

Cebu Pacific's #JuanForFun [20 January 2012 at 12:01 A.M.]

UPDATE:

It's official, it's a seat sale!
PISO Fare on ALL local and international destinations and it starts NOW!
Travel Period is from June 1 to December 15, 2012.
But geez, it's really hard to penetrate Cebu Pacific's website as of now.  Really, really congested.  Oh well.

Via Twitter and Facebook, Cebu Pacific posted a teaser on their upcoming promo for 20 January 2012 which it called, #JuanForFun.  Details will follow at exactly 12:01 am tomorrow.

This is possibly for a seat sale promo.  Usually, the super seat sales by Cebu Pacific starts at around 12 midnight, much like the big sale of Air Asia.  Probably, this is for a Piso fare, or for a super seat sale for travel from May 2012 onwards.

On the other hand, it may just be for a game, like the Fly One, Fly All, Fly Free contest of Cebu Pacific last year.  I checked my blog and I found that it was launched early January last year, 12 January 2011 to be exact.

Anyway, I am hoping that this # JuanForFun is a seat sale promo.  *fingers crossed*

     Stay tuned, stay up late!

Fly One, Fly All, Fly Free - Cebu Pacific's Crazy Contest Promo on Facebook [12 January 2011]

N.B.  According to Cebu Pacific's tweet on 18 January 2011, "DING DING DING! A plane has reached 150 passengers! Don't give up yet, the race is still ON! The plane has to pass a verification process!"

About two hours ago, I received a tweet from @CebuPacificAir that they're going to have a contest on Facebook entitled, Fly One, Fly All, Fly Free.  Apparently, all you have to do is become a host and have 149 guest or friends on Facebook check-in on your plane headed to any of Cebu Pacific's routes, or become one of the 149 guests of a host.  The host must create a travel plan and itinerary on his chosen destination.  Travel is only limited from 09 March 2011 to 15 March 2011.  The first host to fill-up a plane with 149 guests (150 in fact including the host, of course), is the POTENTIAL WINNER.  Sounds easy?  Not quite so, actually.  Mind you, even if you're the host or a guest of the first completed group does not automatically mean that you win the prize.  For an undertaking this huge, I mean, it's a full plane, after all, and FREE to any of Cebu Pacific's destinations, the catch is quite heavy.  The CATCH - all 150 in your group MUST SHOW UP ON THE DATE OF DEPARTURE; even a SINGLE GUEST WHO FAILS TO SHOW WOULD MEAN THE FORFEITURE OF THE PRIZE.

     These are the mechanics:

So, those who would not show up on the date of departure on 08 MARCH 2011 is sure to have the wrath of hell befall on them; curses cast; perhaps, the modern-day version of stoning, flaming, might be on the party poopers' way.  Better yet, party poopers should be warned that they might be ostracized not only on Facebook but in real life as well.  Heehee.

It  might seem a daunting task but, oh well.  It looks super fun, but the tension and stress that it will bring to the winning participants will be insurmountable. So good luck to all who will participate!

Me?  I'll just chill.  First, I don't have a Facebook account perhaps because I don't have friends (ack!).  And second, while the idea of a free trip is tempting, the contest is stress-inducing.  So, nope.  I'll just wait for a seat sale and buy tickets out of my own pocket.

Finally, you must be wondering what will happen to the winning plane that fails to comply with ALL the rigid requirements.  Of course, they'll forfeit the trip, and the prize will be passed on to the next group which completed the passenger confirmations.  There.

If you want to play the game, here's the link or click the topmost photo.  Have fun!
